Estate planning can be complex and, for many clients, difficult to discuss. Dealing with the loss of a loved one can be devastating and trying to figure out what to do next can be overwhelming. We try to make the process as easy as possible. We listen to each client’s specific needs with care and compassion and explain concepts simply and concisely so it is easily understandable. Attorney Biography
Helen Paik Austin earned her Juris Doctorate degree from the University of San Francisco School of Law in 2003, graduating cum laude and her Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Social Welfare from the University of California, Berkeley.
While in law school, Mrs. Austin interned for various public interest agencies helping poor children and families, including Law Center for Families, National Center for Youth Law, and the San Francisco Public Defender’s Office, Juvenile Division. She interned for the Honorable Edward Chen of the United States District Court, Northern District, where she gained insight into the inner workings of the courtroom. She attended the United Nations Commission on Human Rights in Geneva, Switzerland, where she lobbied nations to abolish the juvenile death penalty and gained invaluable advocacy skills. She served on the law school’s Law Review and published an article in The Journal of Juvenile Law and Policy of the UC Davis School of Law.
Mrs. Austin began her legal career in the public interest sector, providing free legal services to low-income clients. She assisted clients with guardianship matters and domestic violence survivors with restraining orders, child custody and dissolution of marriage. In 2006, she branched out into the private sector and formed Paik Law Group where she began practicing solely in estate planning. Mrs. Austin now assists clients prepare comprehensive estate plans, including living trusts, wills, and powers of attorneys. She also helps family members who have lost a loved one with the administration of trusts and also provides legal representation with probate. Her background in public interest law has given her the compassion and patience to help clients facing difficult life circumstances such as a terminal illness and the death of a loved one.
